EA Sports has introduced several exciting changes and improvements to Ultimate Team (FUT) in EA FC 26, the heart of the series’ multiplayer experience. In FUT, players can purchase card packs to build their dream teams, and with the new updates, there’s more incentive to explore fresh strategies and squad combinations.
New Themed Competitions for More Variety
One of the standout features in FC 26 is the addition of themed competitions. These special events require players to build entirely different squads based on unique entry rules and match conditions. This approach opens up the game to niche players and underutilized cards, adding more diversity to your squad-building decisions.
Streamlined Menu System
EA is simplifying the user interface to make it quicker and easier to claim rewards for completing in-game objectives. This should help players spend less time navigating menus and more time enjoying the action.
Tournament Mode Makes a Comeback
The classic Tournament mode is back in FC 26. These events follow a knockout format and will pop up periodically. Each tournament will have its own set of requirements and rewards, offering players a fun way to compete for prizes outside of the regular gameplay loop.
Introducing Gauntlets
A completely new addition to FUT is Gauntlets. Each Gauntlet consists of up to five matches, and for each match, players are required to field a different squad. This encourages players to utilize a broader range of cards rather than just focusing on the highest-rated players. Similar to Live Events, Gauntlets aim to make more cards valuable, even those that aren’t top-tier. The Ultimate Gauntlet, available bi-weekly at launch, will challenge players to create three distinct squads. As the game progresses, these rules will evolve, and players can earn rewards based on their performance.
Overhauled Rivals Mode
The Rivals mode, a core part of FC 26, has undergone a significant revamp in response to player feedback. New features include Bounties, which are random challenges that appear during matches, giving players an opportunity to earn extra rewards. Limited Checkpoints are also introduced, allowing players to avoid being stuck in the wrong skill bracket for long periods, ensuring that rewards stay accessible to everyone.
Changes to the Champions Mode
Playoffs have been removed from the Champions mode, reducing the overall number of matches required to compete. Now, players can qualify directly for the Champions competition by earning Qualification Points through Rivals matches. For those not in the top divisions, a new Challengers competition offers a similar experience with its own rewards and format.
Competitive Gameplay & New Evolution Mechanic
To support all these structural changes, FUT is introducing a new Competitive Gameplay preset. This preset is designed for skill-based multiplayer matches and promises faster, more responsive gameplay compared to the single-player mode’s Authentic Gameplay. The changes aim to reduce randomness, such as unpredictable rebounds, for a more polished competitive experience.
Additionally, the Evolution mechanic, which has been popular in previous iterations, is now extended to goalkeepers in FC 26. New Repeatable Evolutions will allow players more flexibility in selecting and enhancing their players.
With all these new updates, FC 26 looks set to bring even more depth and excitement to FUT, offering players new ways to strategize, compete, and enjoy the mode.
