How to Improve Item Gear in Diablo IV Beta

The Diablo IV beta test has already started, and what players are most concerned about is how to improve their equipment in the game.

Like its previous series, Diablo 4 provides players with several ways to enhance their gear, which are available from various merchants:

Blacksmith: capable of repairing and upgrading weapons and armor.

Occultist: offers services to extract and imprint Aspects, as well as perform Enchantments.

Jeweler: can upgrade jewelry, add sockets to gear, craft and unsocket Gems.

The simplest way to improve gear is through upgrading, which involves using parts and Diablo 4 gold to boost an item's stats. Each item in Diablo 4 has a limited number of upgrades based on its rarity, and the cost of upgrades increases over time.

Upgrading is best suited for gear that players intend to keep for a long time, as the expense of resources and D4 gold makes it impractical to use on gear that may be replaced soon.

In Diablo 4, stat bonuses provided by gear are called affixes. If players are unsatisfied with an affix on their gear, they can visit the Occultist to enchant it. They can choose from three randomly-determined affixes to replace it with, or keep the original one. Once an affix has been enchanted, it can no longer be changed.

The cost of enchanting an item increases with its rarity. If players plan to add an Aspect to an item to make it legendary, they should first complete any enchantments necessary to avoid spending rare materials unnecessarily.

The Occultist also offers services to extract and imprint Aspects, which are powerful enchantments with a wide range of applications. Aspects can be extracted from legendary gear or unlocked in the Codex of Power. Extracted Aspects are one-use items, while those from the Codex of Power can be used repeatedly on any character.

Each Aspect is compatible only with specific types of gear, and some can only be imprinted onto select items like weapons or jewelry. Aspects vary greatly in power, and it is possible to find two versions of the same Aspect with vastly different stats.
